Physics of Climate Change Workshop for Teachers

I codesigned (with Sarah Ragen) a workshop for teachers in the Northwest Educational Service District. Although originally intended for high school physics teachers, we had participants from across the K-12 spectrum, and presented the workshop both in person and online (due to the Covid-19 pandemic). Participants reported feeling much more confident in their understanding of climate change and how to teach it after the workshop. We presented what we learned from this project at the AGU 2020 Fall Meeting.

UW Oceanography Race Talk facilitator

Since June 2020, I have been a cofacilitator (with Claire McKinley and Hannah Glover) for a volunteer-led, bi-weekly discussion and book group addressing issues of race and racism in academia. This effort has filled a much-needed gap in our department to reflect on how to make our academic spaces more welcoming. This group has developed several proposals and actions for the department to revise how we mentor, teach, and collaborate.
